At Canyon Villas, our dedicated team comprises over 100 staff members, including compassionate CNAs, skilled LVNs, attentive wait staff, diligent kitchen preps and cooks, meticulous housekeepers, proficient maintenance workers, and efficient administrative assistants. We take great pride in our commitment to supporting military veterans through employment opportunities within our community.

We are more than just a licensed Residential Care Facility for the advanced in years; we are a sanctuary of warmth, compassion, and unwavering support. Our mission is to provide exceptional care to Residents in need of Assistance with Daily Living, while offering a nurturing and inviting home for those who cherish their independence but may require assistance in the future.

Within our walls, we embrace diversity and celebrate individuality. Unlike typical facilities, we are a not-for-profit organization, prioritizing the well-being of our residents above all else. By keeping our rates as low as possible, we ensure that financial constraints never compromise the quality of care our residents receive.

We are dedicated to shattering the perception of retirement communities as places of confinement, instead fostering an environment of freedom and autonomy. Our residents are encouraged to come and go as they please, to dine in our welcoming dining room, and to partake in a myriad of enriching activities tailored to their interests.

Vonda Boller

Administrator/CEO

Vonda has been at Canyon Villas since December 2015.  A native of Texas who enjoys San Diego Life.  She started working in the Accounting field when in the Navy back in 1993 and has progressed through the field and is now the Chief Executive Officer at Canyon Villas.  “I feel so lucky to work in this facility, our staff is happy and so are our residents.  It is a great place to walk into each day knowing you get to spend quality time with families and friends of our facility.

Aurora Madueno

Admissions/Chief of Operations

Aurora joined Canyon Villas in 2004 as the Activities Director with a degree in Psychology and Child Development from the University of San Diego.  With love for people, crafting, organizing, and party planning, this position was the perfect fit.  Aurora has slowly transitioned behind the scenes in the marketing and operations aspects, from decorating, staging apartments, purchasing, web design, and resident admissions and overseeing the community’s different departments.

Ileen Lund

Executive Nursing Coordinator

Joining Canyon Villas in February of 2002. Ileen has an intensive Healthcare Background.  With a Nursing/ Psychology degree from Manila Doctors College in the Philippines and a Healthcare Administration degree from Ashworth College, Canyon Villas was the right fit. She started working as a nurse assistant during the night shift and worked her way up to her admin position.  Mother of six children, and grandmother of 3 boys, Ileen stays busy. “Every day is a learning experience, and Canyon Villas has helped me grow. 

Mari Perez

Human Resources Director 

Our very talented addition to the team, Mari has been at Canyon Villas since October 2021.  You can find her doing employee intake, overlooking department scheduling, problem-solving, covering the front desk, and even decorations and floral arranging to beautify our community.

Joe Boller

Business Director

Joe joined Canyon Villas in November 2023.  He is a native Texan and called Austin home until he joined the US Army in 1991.  Joe, better known as Sgt Boller back then, moved to the greater San Diego area after he received orders to report to 32nd Street Naval Station in 1999.  After getting out of the Army in October 2000, he remained in San Diego because he “loved the weather.” With a BA and MBA in Accounting, Joe has worked in accounting and finance for over 20 years. “The best part about working here is being surrounded by great staff, all the wonderful residents, and working with my beautiful wife, Vonda. We are a big family here at Canyon Villas!”

Anais Cortes

Activities Director          

Anais, a Clairemont Native, has been working at Canyon Villas since 2008.  At the age of 16, she began working after school in the dining room as part of the wait staff.  On occasions, she would volunteer during activities and fell in love with the job.  Anais was picked for the Activities Assistant position in 2014 that gave her the experience to what is now her present position as the Activities Director of Canyon Villas.

Emi Rivera-Rodis

Housekeeping Director

“I have been working for Canyon Villas since 2010.  I graduated from Morse High School.  Before Canyon Villas, I was working in property management.  The best part of my job is getting to know the residents.  Working for Canyon Villas is being part of a family.  This is my second home.”

Apolinar Reyes

Maintenance Director

Joining Canyon Villas in June 2009, Apolinar has shown that hard work and dedication pays off.  An amazing addition to the team providing service with a smile every day, you can find Apolinar doing everything from electrical work, painting, building furniture, and working closely with other department supervisors and staff to ensure everything is looking beautiful and running smoothly in our community.

Karen Coloma

Dietary Supervisor

Entering Canyon Villas doors in March 1996, Karen has worked her way up to become dietary supervisor through hard work, dedication, and determination.  “I’m so grateful for the ability to make a difference in someone’s day.  My team and I take pride and are truly grateful to serve our residents.”

Eduardo Juarez

Executive Chef

Entered Canyon Villas dining services on April 2011. Eduardo has been an essential part of our dietary services. He has done everything from serving, to washing dishes to being a prep, to a cook, and continued with his love for food to be a great chef.  He recently went to Culinary Institute of America in Napa to continue to perfect his  skills.

Matt Johnson

Executive Chef

Canyon Villa’s First Executive Chef, entered our dining services in 2022.  You can see him serving up beautiful and colorful platters and greeting our guests with a smile as they approach our dining room.
